Gertrude was down in the poultry coop trying to rest in a new part of the coop. Suddenly she heard, "So you did it." Gertrude walked over to the coop and said, "Did what?"
"All the grit in the barn has been stolen, and it's entirely your fault, Lucky," said Phillip.
Gertrude takes her trusty spyglass and investigates. She thought to herself that Lucky is a light Brahma, a feather-legged bird. Phillip, a Columbian Wyandotte, is a clean-legged breed. Gertrude had a talk with the other residents in the barn. They said they had seen a clean-legged bird in the feeding shack earlier. They said they didn't think it was anything out of the ordinary. Therefore, it wasn't anything out of the ordinary.
"That's strange," Gertrude thought to herself. No birds are allowed in the feeding shack. For this exact reason, chickens are getting accused of stealing fee. So Gertrude thought, "doesn't Phillip hate Lucky?" if Phillip hates Lucky, that means he'll do anything to make her look bad.
"Phillip, your head of the rooster her, right?" said Gertrude.
"Yes," said Phillip.
"You'll do anything to make Lucky look bad, right?" said Gertrude.
"Well, I don't know about that. I was just minding my own business and someone stole my secret stash of grit," said Phillip, "Lucky is always looking for some grit, si that is a safe conclusion. So Lucky, if you'll just admit that you stole the grit, we'll just call it even."
"Phillip, you probably stole it just to make me look bad," said Lucky.
"How dare you say such things, Lucky," said Phillip.
Wait a second! He's gone, noticed Gertrude. Gertrude ran around to the back of the coop and found Phillip eating the grit. "You stole the grit and accused Lucky just to make her look bad," said Gertrude.
How did Gertrude know that Phillip had been the culprit? Phillip is a Columbian Wyandotte, and is a clean-legged breed, mixed in a flock of Brahmas, a feather-legged breed. Since other hens had seen a clean-legged chicken in the feed shack, it couldn't be the Brahma, because they are feather-legged. Phillip is the only clean-legged chicken in this whole barn, other than me, thought Gertrude, making Phillip the culprit.
