One day Gertrude McCluck was roosting with the other chickens. Suddenly Chip the white Silkie came running in "Gertrude, Gertrude, one of the chickens was attacked by a phantom."

Gertrude followed Chip to the injured chicken named Ms. Nelly Peck Hen. It wasn't serious just a few pulled feathers on the left wing. Gertrude asked a few questions but it was no use.

Nelly said, "it was too dark to see."

Gertrude knew the only way was to fight, but how? She gathered the war council early the next morning for a meeting. "We'll peck this phantom to pieces" cried Ms. Eggles.

During the meeting Gertrude said, "I need one brave chicken to lure this so called phantom." No one wanted to do the job but finally Buffy raised her wing slowly. It was a risky job but someone had to do it.

When night arrived the chickens hid behind some barrels and feed sacks. Buffy started to walk around the coop and the phantom stalked her quietly as she made her way around the coop. Once she walked past the hiding place the chickens jumped out and attacked the phantom. They pulled his ears, pecked him, and scared him away.

"I should have known it was Bandit the Fox," said Gertrude after she saw the track in the ground. The other's cheered and shouted, "We showed that fox who's boss around here!"
