Gertrude McCluck, the Rodeo Queen

By Jack Mason
Idaho

Once upon a time a cowgirl chicken named Gertrude McCluck got on a goat name Blossum. Gertrude wanted to be a rodeo queen. Blossum tried to buck Gertrude off. "Yeehah!" yelled Gertrude. Blossum couldn't buck Gertrude off. A duck with a bandana covering her face, and a cowboy hat tipped slightly over her eyes, waddled over to Gertrude and ripped out one of Gertrude's tail feathers.

"I'll get you for that, you whooper cracker!" yelled Gertrude. Gertrude saw a duck waddle away with her feather. "Quack! You'll never catch me alive!" said the duck as it stole a goat and started to get away.

The duck stopped her goat and waddled into a bank. Gertrude got off of Blossum, and onto a trained goat named Sam. She took a lasso off the fence. Gertrude rode to the bank on Sam. Gertrude looked in the bank for the duck. There she was with a pistol making the helpless bankers giver her bags of money.

"Yeehah!" shouted the duck happily getting away with all the money.

"I'll get that tail feather back," yelled Gertrude as she grabbed at the tail feather.

Well, Gertrude called the police because the duck stole lots of money from the bank. The duck shot at Gertrude with her pistol. It hit Gertrude but it was just duck poop. "Eeeeewww!" screamed Gertrude.

The police caught the duck and removed the bandana from her face. She was a famous criminal: The Black Beaked Bandit! She was arrested and was put in a special jail cell.

Gertrude went back to the rodeo and became a rodeo queen. There was a big parade. Gertrude ate too many pastries and got a stomachache. "Those were so good, I could eat some more," Gertrude said as she grabbed another box of pastries.
