Gertrude McCluck
Helps Out With the Party

By Stephanie Cosgrove
North Carolina

One day I was walking to the store and I ran into Wilma the White Leghorn and she asked where I was going. I said I was going to the Worm and Bug Store. When we got there, I got some dried mealworms and some Sunflower Sensation. Wilma got a can of flies. And she invited me over to her place to help get ready for Ann the Ameraucana's birthday party. I said sure, and went over and helped get ready for Ann's birthday party.

After everything was ready for Ann to come over, all of a sudden the balloons started to pop. I look at Wilma and asked if she knew what was happening. Then we saw all the chickens falling down from where all the balloons were and they were sorry. Wilma said that it was okay, because we didn't tell Ann to come over yet, but we better hurry up and get more balloons up.

After more balloons were up, I flew over to tell Ann to come over to Wilma's coop. She got ready and flew back with me. As soon as we got there, they all jumped out from behind the chicken house and yelled surprise!

Ann said, "Oh, you remembered when my birthday was."

Wilma said, "We weren't going to forget when your birthday was. You remembered when my birthday was and we celebrated it."

And I said, "Let's get on with the celebration!"

Wilma gave the can of flies to Ann. She was so excited and said, "I just ran out of flies and was going to get some tomorrow. Now I don't have to, thanks a lot."

She really liked the dried mealworms and Sunflower Sensation. She said it was the best birthday ever. She was just about to leave when Wilma said, "Wait, I forgot all about the worm cake."

"There's worm cake, too?" said Ann. "Well then, let's eat it!" We all said it was the best worm cake ever.
