Sheriff McCluck
and the Bantam Bandit

By Aiden Evans
Michigan

Honorable Mention

It all started on a normal day in an old western town named Chickadee when a masked Golden Laced Wyandotte named the Bantam Bandit came into town on the back of his black stallion with an empty sack. Looking for a poor old person to rob, he took his pistol out of his holster and walked up to the first house he saw, which happened to be Sheriff McCluck's house. When the Bantam Bandit opened the door he was surprised to find Sheriff McCluck sleeping on his bed. The bandit took everything he could find and put it in his sack.

"Squaak!" Sheriff McCluck screamed in fury, when she woke up and found everything missing. Once Sheriff McCluck got everything under control she spoke loudly and said, "Mark my words, you'll pay for this."

Sheriff McCluck walked around town trying to figure out everything she could about the Bantam Bandit. She learned that the bandit came from the east, rode on the back of a black stallion, and left town heading west. Sheriff McCluck sat at her desk thinking, when a note arrived via the Pony Express. The note was from the sheriff in Kluckster, a town just west. It said the sheriff was robbed there and the robber had the same looks too. But by this time the bandit left Kluckster and went back east, straight towards Chickadee. Once the sheriff was done reading the letter, she ran outside and jumped on her horse and ran west towards the Bantam Bandit.

Sheriff McCluck was still riding day after day. It was the seventh day when she saw a small town in the distance. She became overjoyed. The horse started to gallop straight towards the town. When Sheriff McCluck reached the town, she was surprised to find no one else there.

She knew that the town couldn't be Kluckster. So she kept on walking until a blank piece of paper came down and frightened her horse so the horse ran away. She ran after the horse but it was no use, the horse just kept on running. When she was just about to give up, she noticed something shiny in a building that had a sign that read bank. She walked inside to investigate what was shining. She walked in and saw all the stuff that the robber had taken from her and the other victims.

Then she heard a rough voice say, "I knew you would come eventually."

"You'll never get away with this," Sheriff McCluck said bravely as she turned around and saw the bandit.

"I already have," the bandit replied as he pulled his pistol out of his holster. Then out of nowhere Sheriff McCluck's horse tramples on the Bantam Bandit, kicking his gun out of his hand. Sheriff McCluck ran over and picked up the bandit's gun, leaving him wounded and unarmed.

Everything was returned to their owners and the Bantam Bandit was locked up forever.
