Gertrude McCluck in
Chicken World Tour!

By Caleb Foxwell
Delaware

Gertrude McCluck takes a surprising trip. She was eating scratch when she got picked up and stuffed in a crate. She was going to be sold to a butcher. It turns out that the butcher lives in China. Gertrude was in a crate, on the plane and she saw other animals. She was scared the cats wanted to eat her. The dogs and parrots kept barking and singing so she could not sleep.

When Gertrude got to China she was too skinny to eat. She was put in with the meat birds so she could get fatter. They all came up with a plan to escape. First, they tried to get skinny so that they would not be eaten so soon. The meat birds could not handle a day without food, so that failed.

Next, they tried flying over the fence. The fence was only 7 feet but the meat birds were too heavy, they could not fly, that plan also failed.

Finally, what they did was get extra fat so the butcher would try to cook and eat them. He walked in with a net and as soon as he opened the door the chickens ran out. They hitched a ride, on a bus, to the airport. When the bus stopped the chickens got on the plane, in first class! The chickens hid under the seat.

Suddenly the plane went spinning out of control and crashed in Canada. They were now on the stairs and were noticed by a young boy. The boy took them in to his house and showed them to his mom. She entered Gertrude McCluck in a chicken show that she won 1st place in. They knew Gertrude was not from around there. They knew the chickens were from the U.S.A. They had them shipped back home, in the crate again.

When the chickens got back home, they went into their pen. The chickens were happy to see her and the other chickens safe from the butcher. Gertrude had a new story to tell. They were all happy but the farmer did not know why other chickens were in his coop.
