One day Gertrude, found a huge footprint that she didn't recognize. She asked all the other hens and chicks if they knew what it was. No one knew who made it. So she asked Pretty Girl and Peppermint to help her figure it out. They said yes and off we went.
They followed the footprints to the garden and found rabbits. The rabbits didn't now what the prints were either. They were harvesting food for the barnyard picnic. Next, they found pigs in the mud. They asked the mama pig if she had seen the prints. She said no. She was busy cleaning up her little piglets.
The horses were giving rides to the humans. So they asked Old Fred, the workhorse, if he knew anything about the prints. Old Fred said, "Those prints go all the way to the house were the humans live."
So Gertrude and the ladies followed the footprints to the house. The footprints went to the house just like Old Fred said. Once they got there they discovered a new creature.
The humans were playing with something called a puppy. The farmer had gotten a puppy for the farm. The humans named him Chocolate Muffin because he tried to eat a chocolate muffin, but the farmer stopped him in time.
Gertrude, Pretty Girl and Peppermint returned to the hen house and reported that there was a new animal on the farm. After careful observation, Gertrude decided that Chocolate Muffin was energetic and playful. Chocolate Muffin was welcomed to the farm.
