Once upon a time Gertrude McCluck decided to move. Once she got there it looked much different than she though it would. It was smaller than her old house with small windows, and it had a small chicken pen with a few chickens in it. She walked over to see the chickens.
"What are you doing in this small pen?" she asked.
"This is our pen and we like it just the way it is," Sarah the hen said.
"I came to live here with you," said Gertrude. "How do I get in there?"
"There is a gate right there," says Sarah the hen.
"How do I open it? It has a high latch."
And Sarah said, "I can open it for you"
"Thank you," says Gertrude as she walks in the door.
The farmer walked over and opened the chicken gate. "Time to go to bed chickens," he said. All of the chickens ran in. Everybody found a nest to sleep in.
Gertrude asks, "Where will I sleep?"
A hen called Emily says, "There is a nest right here that you can sleep in."
"Thank you, Emily. Good night," said Gertrude
The next morning the chickens woke up. The farmer called, "Breakfast everyone." He opened up the gate and all the chickens ran out. Then he poured chicken food into the feeder. All the chickens started to eat.
Gertrude said, "Thank you everyone for sharing your little house with me."
