Gertrude McCluck:
Who Stole Gabby?

By Mandy Sietsma
Indiana

One cloudy day on the farm Gertrude McCluck was taking a nap on the porch. She heard a chirp from the chicken coop. She quickly got up and ran to the coop to see what the matter was.

Eggatha said, "Someone stole Gabby."

Gertrude asked, "Where did it go?"

Eggatha said, "To the dark, scary woods."

"What was it?"

Eggatha said it was a fox. After Gertrude heard that, she ran to the pond to get a fish. She hoped to make a trade with the fox. She then went on her way to find Gabby and the sneaky fox. On her way, she found a trail of fox footprints. She turned on the trail. After about 10 minutes of walking the trail she saw a cave. On the left were footprints leading up to it. She decided to go inside to see if Gabby was in there. She found Gabby about ready to get eaten by the fox.

Gertrude said to stop. The fox said, "No, I am hungry."

Gertrude said that she had come to trade a fish for the chick. The fox said, "Okay, but you give me the fish first."

Gertrude said, "No, you give me the chick first."

The fox said, No."

Gertrude said, "Fine, we will trade at the same time."

The fox said, "Fine," and they did.

Gabby and Gertrude said bye to the fox, and the fox said bye.

Gertrude said, "When you are in the area, come get a fish from the pond." The fox agreed.

They left to go back home to see all their friends and Gabby thanked Gertrude and gave her a hug. When they got home, their friends threw them a party.
