Hi my name is Gertrude McCluck. I live here on Gerny Acres farm. I wanted to tell you about my vacation to the wonderful country of Honduras.
Well, it all started about 3 months ago. I boarded a Spirit flight to Honduras. I landed in the capital city, Tegucigalpa. From there I hitched a ride in a "toot toot," or small taxi to Copan Ruinas. I had heard it was a pretty big tourist place with lots of Mayan ruins.
When we first got into the town I think I was in "cluckture" shock. I was bobbing up and down all the way through town, the streets were cobblestone. I looked all around. Wow, the mountains were gorgeous, they were green and sky touching! I hopped out of the chicken stowaway and landed right in front of a house .
I was just in time to hear some people say, "I mean it's true, the chickens out in the village of Las Brisas de San Juan really have bald heads. I have no idea why though." At these words my neck popped, and I raced to a chicken that was eating nearby.
"Excuse me, do you know the way to Las Brisas de San Juan," I asked the chicken behind the fence. He told me the way, but warned me it was a big hike! That was alright though...I thought there was a mystery to be solved!
I hiked up the mountain and along the way I almost drowned in mud but thankfully a chicken came by, got me out, and offered to be my guide and translator. I quickly took the offer. When we were almost to the top of the mountain we came to the village. They were right! I saw chicken with a bald neck.
I asked, "Excuse me, I am a tourist and detective. Why is your neck bald?"
It took a minute to answer but when he did he said, " Well, I don't really know, I've always had a bald neck but the old chicken probably knows. He knows almost everything."
I told him "thank you" and my guide took me there. I pecked on the door and in a moment a chicken was at the door.
"Can I help you," he asked. I told him why I was there and he told me to come in. Then he said, " I will tell you the truth. I do not know why but I do know, it came from my great, great, great-grandrooster, who originated from Hungary. Truthfully I have no idea how we got from Hungary to Honduras. Maybe it was from that man Columbus who first landed off the coast of Honduras."
I thanked him and we left. I spent the rest of my time trying to figure out how they did get from Hungary to Honduras, which is in Central America but that is another story for me to tell in the future.
