Gertrude McCluck stepped out of the coop for fresh air. "Ahh," she said, "fresh morning air is just what I need." Gertrude stayed there until the farmer's daughter, Julie came out.
"Hello, Gertie," she said. As Julie went to go check for eggs, Gertrude saw her friend Babs come out.
"Hello Babs," she said.
"Fine day," said Babs, "not a cloud in sight."
"True," Gertrude answered.
"Here chickie-loos. Here, come get your scratch," called Julie. All the chickens ran out. Screech!
"I wonder what that was," thought Gertrude. Screech! There it was again. She went into the coop to investigate. There sat Chelsie, crying. "What's wrong?" Gertrude asked.
"Someone stole my brooch that I got from my mom," Chelsie answered.
"Let's look for it," suggested Gertrude. Just as they were about to stop looking, Lester, the rooster came by.
"Hey ladies, look what I found," he said. The two hens turned around.
"My brooch!" cried Chelsie.
"Bernard stole it," said Lester.
"How do you know?" Gertrude asked, her pencil flying across her notebook paper, "You said you found it." She looked hard at Lester.
"Okay, I stole it to make him look bad because we're, like, enemies," he cried. So, Lester gave Chelsie her brooch back and apologized to Bernard. In the end they all became friends.
Another mystery and problem solved! Yeah!
